Abstract We will report a new pedagogical activity "Integrated design of a synchrotron beamline" at Ecole Centrale Paris with the collaboration of the ESRF, Soleil and the NSLS. The purpose of this multidisciplinary activity is to take the pretext of the (virtual) construction of synchrotron beamline, dedicated to a particular experiment (coronary angiography or x-ray fluorescence microscopy), to give engineer students a new motivation in their scientific, technical and social learnings. As a result, by taking the students to takle, as a team, problems in mechanics, physics, heat transfer, choice of materials, we observe an acceleration of their maturation, an increased awarness of the necessity for an engineer to master and consider these disciplines as whole and not as disconnected knowledges.
