Title : Detector Development at the Advanced Light Source

Abstract :
A new detector development program is being started at the Advanced Light Source, in recognition of the need for improved detectors which enable new scientific discoveries and take advantage of technological developments in other fields.  At the ALS, we are concentrating on using LBNL's traditional strengths in solid state detectors and microelectronics to address unmet needs at the ALS. Several projects are planned or are already underway, and will be described in this talk.  Particular emphasis will be placed on a fast CCD camera we have developed (200 Megapixels/second at 14 bits), based on thick, fully depleted CCDs capable of direct x-ray detection. This detector is scheduled to be deployed this year.
