Title : Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering in wide-band materials

Abstract :
We theoretically demonstrate that the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) with sizable momentum transfer can be utilized to study the valence band dispersion for the wide-band materials, taking up RIXS at Si K edge of 3C-SiC as a typical example. The RIXS spectra are calculated with systematically varying transfered-momentum,
incident-photon polarization and incident-photon energy, on the basis of an ab initio calculation. We find that the spectra strongly depends on both ransfered-momentum and incident-photon polarization, and the peaks in the spectra correspond to the energies of the valence bands. We conclude that the information on the energy dispersion of valence bands can be extracted from the RIXS spectra by means of varying the transfered-momentum. These findings leads to further application of RIXS experiment to investigate the band structure of the wide-band materials.
