Title : Searching for events that occur only once per 30-billion events -Data acquisition system to search for the rare neutral Kaon decay
Abstract :
Neutral Kaon has been played an important role for the progress of the particle physics. One of the hottest topic now is to search for the Klong decays to a neutral pion and two neutrinos. Thanks to the small theoretical uncertainty, the precise measurement of its branching fraction is a quite good tool for the verification of the standard model as well as for the discovery of the new-physics.
However, the search for this decay is experimentally very difficult, because the expected branching fraction of 3x10^-11 is too small, and the backgrounds are too large.
The two-step experiments, KEK PS-E391a and J-PARC KL, had been planned to overcome its difficulty. The E391a experiment has successfully operated as a pilot experiment.
The goal is to measure around 100 events with the high-intensity proton synchrotron at J-PARC.
In this talk, I will introduce how I constructed the data acquisition system and the software framework for the E391a experiment. I will also discuss about the problems and some solutions in the expected high-intensity environment at J-PARC.
