Title :
Analysis of interactions between biomolecules and solid substrates using surface analysis techniques
Abstract :
We have been studying interfaces between biomolecules and solid surfaces mainly with scanning probe microscopes (SPMs). Our interests are focused especially on the interactions operating between biomolecules and solid surfaces at a nanometer scale, since the interactions are considered to be responsible for many processes such as protein adsorption, denaturalization of proteins, cell adhesion, apoptosis. In this presentation, we report our recent two results: 1. Interactions at nanometer scales induced by bioinert surfaces. 2. Mechanism underlying artificial peptides targeting inorganic materials. We also discuss the unsolved issues in the field of biointerfaces.
