Date : 15:00-16:30 21 MAY (Fri.), 2010 Place : Kamitsubo Hall Speaker : Simon C. Leemann Language : English Affiliate : MAX-Lab / Lund University, Sweden Title : The Max IV 3GeV Storage Ring - Lattice and Technology - Abstract: Construction of the facility will begin this summer. MAX IV will consist of a 3 GeV linac as a driver for a short-pulse radiation facility (with planned upgrade to a seeded/cascaded FEL) as well as a full-energy injector for two storage rings (1.5 and 3.0 GeV) serving user communities in separate spectral ranges. While the 1.5 GeV storage ring is based on a relatively simple DBA lattice, the 3 GeV storage ring makes use of a radically new lattice design: the multibend achromat. Thanks to its compact multibend-achromat design, the 528 m circumference 3 GeV ring will deliver an electron beam (500mA with top-up) with a horizontal emittance below 0.3 nm rad to various high-brightness x-ray insertion devices located in nineteen 5 m long dispersion-free straight sections. When the 3 GeV ring goes into operation in 2015 it is expected to become the highest-brightness storage ring light source worldwide. In this talk the novel design of the 3 GeV storage ring will be presented. The first part of the talk will focus on the multibend achromat lattice, the beam dynamics, and the expected performance. In the second part of the talk emphasis shall be placed on technology choices required to make this storage ring design both feasible and cost-efficient. Organizer : Koichi Soutome |
