Magneto-spectroscopy for functional magnetic materials

Overview of Research Group, Goals and Purposes:

The research group comprises researchers and graduate students who are currently studying magnetic materials such as spintronics devices, permanent magnet, novel magnetic materials, and their fundamental magnetic materials. In this groupie, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectroscopy and the related techniques of both the soft- and the hard-x-ray regimes are used to study the magnetic materials. We aim to exchange information, promote collaborative work, and to improve the quality and quantity of research activities using the SPring-8 beamlines. Furthermore, we also plan to exchange ideas for experimental tools, acquire funding for further improvements to equipment, organize research meetings, and also to present details of research activities at relevant conferences and meetings.

Magnetic materials are the representative functional materials based on the spin states and the nanoscopic magnetic interaction. It is clearly essential to elucidate the origin of the function for improving magnetic properties and finding out a novel magnetic material. XMCD can provide us with element-selective knowledge of magnetic states, taking advantage of the excellent degree of light polarization and energy-tunability of synchrotron radiation. End stations dedicated to XMCD experiments are now available and open for users at BL25SU and BL23SU in the soft X-ray region and BL39XU in the hard X-ray regime. The research group will contribute to increase scientific activities in studies of magnetism using XMCD and the related techniques at SPring-8.
