Overview of Research Group, Goals and Purposes:
Biomedical micro/nano imaging group aims at the development and utilization of hard X-ray imaging systems for biomedical specimens using mainly phase contrast technique in combination with tomography and fluorescence X-ray imaging. The activities are proposed as follows:
- Discussion on research topics suitable for the use of SPring-8 and SACLA:
Promising research topics are discussed and selected for the establishment of the biomedical imaging field in the SPring-8 research planning, particularly taking account of multi modal imaging system and rapid progress in super-resolution imaging techniques in optical microscopy. The station upgrade should be also proposed according to this discussion.
- Proposal of the upgrade of experimental stations for observing biomedical specimens:
Proposals are presented based on our significant outputs on the observation of biomedical specimens, such as an improvement of laboratory equipment for specimen preparation and handling.
- Activity in the academic societies on biomedical imaging and related fields:
Information about suitable biomedical specimens for X-ray imaging are collected by members through academic meetings, and the strategy to increase the number of potential users is discussed. In addition, to introduce X-ray imaging to researchers working in the biomedical imaging fields, the planning of a workshop on X-ray imaging in relating academic societies should be considered.
