講演要旨 X-ray scattering techniques with resolution power exceeding 107 are being used to study electronic and collective behaviors of materials in some unique ways. In this presentation, we will review how elastic and inelastic x-ray scattering can shed light to vibrational characteristics of materials under extreme conditions. These include study of monolayers or interfaces, impurities, materials under extreme pressure, and liquids at elevated temperatures. Newly developed techniques allow measurement of lattice constants, and thermal expansion coefficients of isotopically pure crystals. When highly monochromatic and tunable radiation is combined with nuclear resonance technique, thermodynamic properties like specific heat, Debye temperature, or aggregate speed of sound can be obtained from nanogram quantities of materials. The potential applications of high-resolution x-ray scattering will be further discussed.
