Title:
Status of angle- and spin-resolved photoemission at BESSY-II and recent experiments with quantum films spin-polarized due to spin-orbit interactions at buried interfaces
Abstract:
The scope of the seminar will include a brief report on recent developments in the field of photoelectron spectroscopy with ultra-high energy, angle- and spin-resolution at the synchrotron radiation facility BESSY-II in Berlin. Several examples of experimental activities, concerned with investigations of various quantum films spin-polarized due to spin orbit-interactions at the interfaces will be presented. [1-2] In particular, the first observation of a Rashba effect in metal quantum well states will be presented. Another reported experiment deals with the electronic structure and spin-polarization in graphene synthesized on transition metal surfaces and electronically decoupled from these surfaces by intercalation of a Au monolayer. [3] We also discuss the existence of Rashba effect in graphene on bare 3d ferromagnetic substrates [4], as reported recently in the literature.
